Adam Lane Fontaine

Adam Lane Fontaine was born at 8:19 a.m. on Sunday July 12, 2009. He weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces and was 18 inches long.

As is typical of our family, he came in the midst of chaos! The day before he was born, Mark spent the day working on the room we were building for Adam. As luck would have it, we spent the day with no electricity, thanks to the construction. Somehow, somewhere, a wire got crossed and the electrical breaker box started to overload and overheat. It was literally glowing red, and our garage smelled of electrical burn! This was on a Saturday afternoon, so of course there were no available electricians. We ended up spending the night at the Microtel Inn here in Sulphur! I woke Mark around 5:15 a.m. and told him that I thought we needed to go to the hospital. We made it to the hospital at 5:30. I was checked in Early Labor and my OB was called. I was at 5 cm. and was fully effaced. I figured we had plenty of time still... I was put in a room (coincidentally, the same room our Malachi was born in!) and checked again. I was then at 7 cm. My doctor was called again and told to "hurry". When Dr. Grimshaw got there around 7:45, he broke my water and talked to Mark for a few minutes before walking out to take care of something. Just as he walked out, I felt the urgent need to push, and he came running back in. Shortly thereafter, we had our little boy! It was such a wonderful experience, I would do it again! :) Malachi is an amazing big brother. He absolutely adores Adam. And Adam is generally calmer when Chi is around. As soon as Adam hears his brother's voice, he starts looking around for him. It blesses my heart in ways I could have never imagined. I am absolutely loving my life!

Just blogging

I don't have any pictures ready right now, or I would post them, too. Mark asked me a minute ago if I had posted anything new lately, and I realized I hadn't. So here goes!

Last weekend, we made the spur-of-the-moment decision to go to Abilene, TX. When I say spur-of-the-moment, I mean we decided about 3 hours before we left that we were going to go! In case you don't know, that is a 10-hour car ride from here. So we packed up and left, only to get there at 2:30 in the morning and find out that the reservations that my in-law's had so thankfully made, were lost and they had given away our room. Luckily, at 3:30, we were in a room and settled in for the night. My poor little Chi had gotten carsick on the way, but he was fine (or so we thought) by then. The next day, we just kind of hung out. The hotel we stayed at had several games that you could "rent", and Mark, his brother Aaron, their mom Gloria, and their uncle played several games of shuffleboard. And I thought that was an "old-people" game! That evening, we went to a 50th anniversary party for Gloria's aunt and uncle. (That was the main reason for our trek out west.) It was a nice party. Chi and I went back to the hotel early, because we were both tired and Chi just wasn't acting like himself. So we went back, bathed, and watched tv until we fell alseep. The next morning, we got up and packed for the trip home. Luckily, Aaron rode with us, and he and Malachi did a very good job of entertaining each other! Aaron may just have to come on every long car ride with us from now on! My little boy really is blessed to have such a great uncle.

On the way home, nothing really seemed out of the ordinary. About 40 minutes from home, Malachi started acting bonkers, but that's not really unusual for that time of day. So we thought nothing of his goofiness. We got home and started unpacking, doing laundry, and getting ready for bed. Just as I was sending Chi off to bed, he came over to give me a hug and a kiss, and I noticed he was burning up. Now, just minutes prior to this, he was quite literally bouncing off the walls! We took his temperature and it was around 104*! So we gave him some Children's Motrin, and put him in bed. He, of course, ended up in our bed sometime during the night. The next morning, he obviously couldn't go to school, so he had to come with me to my OBGYN appointment. He did, however, love hearing baby Adam's heartbeat on the doppler! Later that afternoon, I got him in to see his pediatrician. His strep test was negative, but he was still running a high fever and was complaining of a sore throat and was hoarse. He was prescribed an antibiotic and to alternate Children's Tylenol and Motrin until the fever broke. Usually, Malachi is a very healthy child, and on the rare occasion that he has a fever, it typically breaks quickly and on it's own. This stubborn one hung on for 3 days. It was late Wednesday afternoon when his fever FINALLY broke. It had steadily gone down, but just kept hanging on. We were so relieved when it finally left. Mark and I both ran some fever and felt rather yukky this week, but nothing compared to my poor little boy. He is, however, much better now and we are all happy about that!

Today, we went to his friend, Hannah's, birthday party. She turned 3, and we had a fun time celebrating with her at the Trinity Center in Lake Charles.

Well, I'm running out of things to say. (I know, imagine that!) So I guess I'll stop here for now. Hopefully, I'll be able to post some pictures soon!

Multimedia message

I meant to post this earlier. It's Chi and I on our helicopter ride! Acadian Ambulance has several helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. We happened to get lucky one day when we were at the hospital visiting my dad. It was awesome!

My Little Farmer!

Mark and Malachi are heading out to work on our new garden. Chi loves to play in the dirt! Typical little boy, I suppose! With all the rain we've had, we thought it would be a good idea to have him wear his rubber boots. I think he's adorable!

12 years and my heart still breaks

12 years ago today, one of my dearest friends, Blaine David Smith, passed away at age 15. It still breaks my heart to this day to not have him here with us. My son, Malachi Blaine, is named after my friend. Losing Blaine was my first real experience with death. I did not like it. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. Sometimes with smiles. Sometimes with tears. And sometimes, with a rueful laugh at the antics of small children. I miss you, Blaine. And I love you always. You're always with me in my memories.

Hello!

I guess I figured since everyone else was doing it, why not? LOL At any rate, my friends and family can keep up with us through this blog, and know about our happenings. Or at least, the ones I choose to share!

A little bit of background on us. Mark and I got married June 28, 2003 at Maplewood Church of Christ in Sulphur, LA. This has been my church home my entire life, and Mark had been coming there with me for about the last year or so. After we got married, we moved to Baton Rouge so that Mark could continue to manage the Chick-fil-A in the Mall of Louisiana. We moved back "home" in January of 2004 due to my dad's health. Mark started working at a sign shop in Lake Charles, and I stayed home to take care of my dad. Later that year, after finding out that we were expecting our first child, Mark passed his state and national registry exams to become an EMT Basic. He began working at Acadian Ambulance on February 14, 2005, just 3 days after we welcomed our precious 6 pound 14 ounce Malachi Blaine into our little family. In the summer of 2007, Mark passed his state and national registry exams to become an EMT Paramedic. I am so proud of him and his accomplishments!

I am still a stay at home mom. We are currently expecting our second (and final) addition to our family. Another boy, who will be named at a later time. Of course, we also have Frank, our miniature dachshund who adopted us August of 2003. Then came Stein the summer of 2007, followed by Ruff in March of 2008. I can honestly say that with the addition of "baby Fontaine", our little family will be quite complete!
